I woke up yesterday thinking of Claudia… because I felt incredibly honored that she asked that I be the family photographer to document and be a part of the day where she leaves the foster care program behind and joins her forever family.
When Mom reached out and told me that the adoption would be official in June, I jumped up and did a little happy dance! I met this FUN-loving family last fall when we all braved the cold and wind to get their fall family pictures done.
I sat anxiously awaiting in front of the Jefferson County Court house as I was wondering about the emotions that the family was feeling…. I greeted them and gave Claudia a quick squeeze before we headed in.
The courtroom is every photographer’s worst nightmare… no windows, no natural light. The good news though is Judge Ann was heart-warming and brought her own light as she entered the courtroom. She was moved at the large audience that came to show their love and support and that brought a whole new level of joy to the atmosphere!
There was a lot of laugher and smiles through this hearing (and some tears). The Judge asked Mom and Dad some questions and then it was Claudia’s turn to talk. She embraced the opportunity to say how she fit into the family and made the choice to say yes to the adoption.
Claudia is so loved and adored and officially changed her name on June 26, 2019. I imagine this beautiful young lady will change her name again one day but will never have to question if she will have a Dad to walk her down the isle. Her identity as a daughter and big sister is secure, safe and stable.
